An Ivorian lawmaker identified as Alain Lobognan, has been jailed and fined by an Ivorian court for sharing fake news on Twitter.
The Ivorian lawmaker who was jailed and fined $520 for spreading fake news that incited violence, reportedly tweeted on the 9th of January, 2019, that the state prosecutor had ordered the arrest of a fellow MP. The police prosecutor who spoke in court when he was arraigned, said the fake news from the ex-sports minister caused demonstrations and violent clashes.
It was further learnt that Lobognan who has been on hunger strike for 10 days over the case he believes is politically motivated, had fallen out with President Alassane Ouattara ahead of elections scheduled for next year.
